Enterprise is a city spread between the Coffe and Dale Counties in the state of Alabama. It is part of the Dothan-Enterprise-Ozark Combined Statistical Area. It has a toral area of 31 square miles, most of which is land.
The Boll Weevil Monument is a large monument of a woman holding a Boll Weevil. It is in the town square, and is known for being the only statue for an insect pest in the world. The destruction of cotton by the pest is considered a blessing in disguise, since it led to agricultural diversity. Fort Rucker, the Army base, is close to the city. The city was incorporated in 1896. The Boll Weevil Monument was dedicated on December 11, 1919.
Retail trade, public administration and warehousing are the major economic activities here. Public schooling is provided by Enterprise City Schools, the high school of which was badly damaged during a 2007 tornado. It has since then been rebuilt and reopened. For higher education, the city also has the Enterprise–Ozark Community College. For entertainment, there is the recently opened Southern Broadway Theater Company, and the Verizon Wireless BamaJam Music Festival. The closest hospital is Medical Center Enterprise on Edward Street. Enterprise's cost of living is 10.00% lower than the country average, making living here comparatively cheaper.
