Gabbs is an unincorporated community in Nye County, Nevada. Its population at the 2000 census was 318. During that time, it was a city. It was then dis-incorporated in 2001. The community is named after Gabbs Valley, which in turn is named after palaentologist William Gabb (who had studied fossil specimens from the area).
Basic Magnesium, Inc. and Basic Refractories, Inc. are the two companies that were operational here. Once closed in 1944, while the other shut down in 1982.
The population has a majority of White Americans. A significant percentage of the population comprises people of Hispanic origin, and a small percentage of the population comprises Native Americans.
