Gainesville is a town in Wyoming County bordered to the north by Warsaw, west by Wethersfield, south by Pike and east by Castile, in New York, United States. The town is named after General Edmund P. Gaines which is also the name of a village in the town. The original name was "Hebe." Gainesville was established in 1814 which has traditionally been one of dairy farms and forests. The soils are thick and fertile, though somewhat rolling and rocky, as they were blown by the last continental ice sheet.
