Gardendale is a city in Jefferson County, Alabama. It is a northern suburb of Birmingham. The name Gardendale was chosen in 1906, and the community was incorporated in 1955. It has a total land area of 17.9 square miles. Historically, this area had saw mills and cotton gins.
