Gates is a suburb of Rochester in Monroe County, New York, USA. The town was settled in 1797 as Northampton in Ontario County. After a decade, the Town of Gates was subdivided and the part still called Northampton was renamed the Town of Gates and became incorporated on April 1, 1813, derived its name in honor of General Horatio Gates. The Franklin Hinchey House of Gates was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. Several manufacturing plants and companies such as Kodak Alaris, Pepsi Bottling Group, Citigroup, and Maximus Inc. are located within the town.
