Genoa is a hamlet located in Cayuga County in the southwest border of the county and is north of Ithaca, New York, United States. It was named after Genoa in Italy. In 1779, the Sullivan Expedition came to the area and destroyed native villages and stores and became part of the Central New York Military Tract. The name was changed to Genoa in 1808. The town was shortened to form the town of Locke and later the town of Lansing in Tompkins County in 1802 and 1817 respectively. Genoa makes the core of the Finger Lakes region.
