Ghent is a township centrally situated in Columbia County with Chatham and Kinderhook on the north, Austerlitz on the east, Claverack on the south, and Stockport on the west., New York, United States. On April 3, 1818, Ghent was set off from Kinderhook, Chatham and Claverack, prior to which time some part of the territory within the town boundaries had the Indian name of Squampamock. The name was derived after the Belgian city Ghent. The Van Valkenburgh-Isbister Farm was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
