Goldfield is an unincorporated community and the county seat of Esmeralda County, Nevada. Its population at the 2000 census was 440.
The community had a boom period during the first half of the twentieth century due to the discovery and mining of gold. Much of Goldfield was destroyed in a fire in 1924, though some buildings remained intact, notably the Goldfield Hotel, the Consolidated Mines Building (the communications center of the town until 1963), and the schoolhouse.
Gold exploration is still carried out in and around Goldfield. The community also has artists and thinkers amongst its residents.
The population has a majority of White Americans. A small percentage of the population comprises people of Hispanic origin.
