What Is: Precast Stone?
Precast stone is an architectural cast-stone product manufactured for use in a myriad of building projects. Made from a highly-refined mixture of white or gray cement, manufactured- or natural sand, crushed stone or gravel, and mineral-colored pigments, precast stone products are widely used by architects, masons, developers and contractors to achieve the look of natural stone without the often-prohibitive costs and limitations associated with using natural products such as limestone, granite, travertine, brownstone, bluestone, slate, sandstone or other building stones. The precast stones are formed in molds and designed as building facings, columns, door and window surrounds, windowsills, foundation and gable vents, keystones, balustrades, fireplace mantles, crowns, landscape products, and many other building trims and types of ornamentation. Precast stone is also an excellent replacement for deteriorating natural stonework. Some of the many benefits of using precast stone in building applications are its versatility, permanence of both color and texture, strength, durability, aesthetic beauty and affordability.
