Greenville is a city in and the county seat of Butler County, Alabama. It is situated at an elevation of 441 feet, and it has a total land area of 21.20 square miles. The area had Native American settlements originally. The city was established in 1871.

The major employers of the county are Hwashin America Corporation, Butler County School System, Coastal Forest Products, LLC, L. V. Stabler Memorial Hospital, Hysco America Company and Sourcecorp, Inc. Public schooling comprises two elementary, one middle and one high school. It also has a few private schools. Local attractions include the Butler County Historical Society on Fort Dale Road, and the Main Street City of Greenville. Local parks and historic districts include East Commerce Street Historic District, Fort Dale-College Street Historic District, South Street Historic District, Beeland Park, Day Memorial Park, Commerce Street Residential Historic District , King Street Historic District and a few more. A number of banks have branches here. LV Stabler Memorial Hospital is located on Stabler Drive. Mac Crenshaw Memorial Airport and Sells Airport are the local airports. The cost of living here is 14.60% lower than the country average, making living here comparatively cheaper.
