Guilderland is a town located on the central-northwest border of Albany County, just west of Albany, New York, United States. Taken its name from Gelderland province in the Netherlands, the town was formerly a part of the Manor of Rensselaerswyck begun by Patroon Kiliaen van Rensselaer in 1629 as a portion of the New Netherland colony. Aside from the U.S. National Register sites, Guilderland was also home to the New York Power Pool and its control center after the Power Pool's formation in 1966 in answer to the 1965 blackout.
