Indio is located in the Riverside county of California. The city is also nicknamed ‘the city of festivals’ because it celebrates all the special events in town.
The city covers a total area of 29.2 square miles and a population of more than 76,000 people. As part of the Colorado Desert region of the Sonoran desert, Indio is one of the arid agricultural belts with onions, grapes, dates, cotton and citrus being grown in the farms. Dates are among their most important produce. Shields Date Gardens happen to be one of the visiting spots of the area, and even several grape and vegetable fields, although many of them have been compromised due to the growing housing development projects.
Top employers of the city include County of Riverside, Desert Sands Unified School District and John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, among others.
