What Is: Mining?
Mining is defined as the extraction of valuable minerals or other geological materials from the earth. The history of mining in Mounds, and its prospectors is a story of adventure, discovery and dreams. Minerals found in Mounds were quickly recognised as precious resources which promised huge financial gains. Inhabitants of Mounds were driven by determination and they dreamed of better lives. Modern mining processes practiced in Mounds involve prospecting for ore bodies, analysis of the profit potential of a proposed mine, extraction of the desired materials and finally reclamation of the land to prepare it for other uses once the mine is closed.
