Pierre is the capital of the U.S. state of South Dakota and the county seat of Hughes County.Pierre lies on rough river bluffs overlooking the Missouri River which is a few miles away from Lake Oahe, one of the largest man made lakes in the world.It is a very popular fishing destination.Pierre has humid continental climate.The population of Pierre  was 13,646 at the 2010 census, making it the second least populous state capital after Montpelier, Vermont.
