St. Lucie County is a county seat of Fort Pierce, in Florida, United States. It is within the Port St. Lucie, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also part of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Port St. Lucie, FL Combined Statistical Area. St. Lucie County was founded on May 24, 1905, named for Saint Lucie of Syracuse. The Ais tribe was the original inhabitants of the area. Several names are given by the Spanish including Rio de Ays as well as Santa Lucia which named after the short-lived late 16th-century Spanish fort.
