Shorter is a mall town within Macon County, Alabama. It is located on U.S. Interstate 85 and U.S. Highway 80 at 32°24′5″N 85°56′36″W. Elevation is 367 feet. Shorter has a total land area of 1.7 square miles. The downtown Montgomery is just a 20 minute drive to Shorter and 35 minutes from Auburn. According to the census of 2000, Shorter had about 355 residents and 93 families living in the town. Racial makeup was mostly black of 82 percent.
