Skagway is a compact city located in the U.S. state of Alaska. It is along the popular cruise route the Inside Passage at the north end tip of the Lynn Canal approximately 90 miles in the northwest Juneau. Skagway total area is 464 square miles at 59°27′30″N 135°18′50″W. It is elevated 33 feet above sea level. The name Skagway was derived from a Tlingit idiom, shԍagéi which relates to rough seas in the Taiya Inlet causing by strong north winds. Skagway was founded in 1897 and incorporated as a city on June 28, 1900. The city port is a famous stop for cruise ships and the tourist trade is a big business impact of Skagway.
