Somerville is a town located in Morga County, Alabama. It is part in the Decatur Metropolitan Area and the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. Somerville was a former county seat of Morgan County from year 1818 to 1891 before Decatur. The total land area is approximately 1.0 square mile at 34°28′12″N 86°47′56″W. Somerville has an elevation of 656 feet above sea level. Somerville derived its name from an officer Robert M. Summerville which killed on the Creek Indian War in 1814. The town is recognized as one of the National Register of Historic Places since the 24th of March, 1972. In 2010, Somerville had a total population of 724 people living in the town.
