Bartow is a small city of Polk County in the state of Florida. It has a total area of a little over 11 sq. kms. Bartow is also the County seat of Polk. The town is a part of the Metropolitan Statistical Area of Lakeland- Winter Haven. It is located just at the source of Peace river. The local economy is mainly driven by mining, tourism, agriculture and the government or the public sector. Bartow is also home to the international law firm of Holland & Knight. There are several other large businesses in the city like the large department store of Burdines & Sons. The mining of Phosphate is an important part of the local economy.
A nearby place called Bone Valley is the richest source of rock phosphate in the world. Mosaic is the largest employer here. In agriculture, the production of Citrus, blueberry and honey happen in substantial quantities. Tourism also has bright prospects in the area. Some of the attractive tourist destinations are Walt Disney Resort, Busch Gardens at Tampa Bay, Florida Legoland, Gardens of Bok Tower and others. A number of festivals are held in this area on a regular basis like the 4th of July celebration, Parade of Cricket Club Hallowen etc. Bartow is home to many Historic buildings like the Courthouse of Old Polk County, Cigar factory of Thomson & Company which are some of the interesting places to visit.
There are a large number of lakes in Polk County and they offer lage oppurtunities for fishing. Bartow also offers enough opputunities for all types of sports. The education sector is well developed with the presence of a large number of schools in the area. Bartow is well connected with all parts of the countrry. It is also home to a few notable residents like Adam Putnam, E.M. Law, Ray Lewis etc.
