Alexander is a town in Genesee County, New York. It is part of the Batavia Metro Area. The name is after an early settler, Alexander Rea. It includes a village by the same name. It was settled in 1802, and incorporated in 1812. It has a total area of 35.5 square miles, most of which is land. Water bodies include the Tonawanda Creek. Attica, Brookville, East Alexander and Little Tonawanda Creek are some of the communities included within the town.

Manufacturing, retail trade and educational services are the most important commercial activities here. Public schooling comprises one elementary and one high school. The Alexander Classical School located here is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The closest hospital is United Memorial Medical Center, located 6 miles away in Batavia.
