Aztec is a city in San Juan County, New Mexico. Its population at the 2000 census was 6,378.  It is part of the Farmington, New Mexico Metropolitan Statistical Area, and the county seat of San Juan County. Close to the city is the Aztec Ruins National Monument.

The city has a total area of 9.8 square miles, of which, 9.7 square miles of it is land and 0.1 square miles of it (0.82%) is water.
